MedExplained101 ("we", "us") is a self-funded nonprofit that publishes evidence-based health education. This policy explains what information we handle and how.
1. Information we collect
Website visits. Our website is hosted on Squarespace, which may record standard technical data (such as browser type, pages visited and approximate location) to operate and secure the site. See Squarespace's privacy policy for details.
Messages you send us. Our "Ask MedExplained101" form opens your own email app. We receive only what you choose to send: your name, email address and message. Please do not send private medical information.
Newsletter. Subscriptions are handled by Substack on Substack's own site and under Substack's privacy policy.
Social media. When you interact with us on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Telegram or Spotify, those platforms' own privacy policies apply.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
2. How we use information
We use the information above only to reply to your messages, improve our educational content, and run our website and channels. We do not use it for advertising profiles.
3. YouTube API Services
Our internal publishing tools use YouTube API Services to manage videos, playlists and comments on MedExplained101's own YouTube channel. These tools access only our own channel's data, after we sign in with our own account. They do not access the YouTube accounts or data of our viewers.
By using our YouTube content you are also bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Access granted to our tools can be revoked at any time from the Google security settings page.
4. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers that run our website and channels (such as Squarespace, Substack and Google), or where required by law.
5. Retention and security
We keep messages only as long as needed to respond and keep reasonable records. We use the security features of the platforms we rely on and limit access to authorised MedExplained101 team members.
6. Your choices
You can ask us to see, correct or delete any message or personal information you have sent us by emailing info@medexplained101.com. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time through the link in each Substack email.
7. Children
Our content is educational and intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Medical disclaimer
Our content is for education only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date above shows when it last changed.
